Azerbaijan


I found some stamps from republic of azerbaidjan.
I looked in the catalogues of Michel and Scott but i could not find them can you help me out are they real does these stamps exciste.I have no idea.
They al have gom on the back.
I have 6 without touth
and 6 with touth.
from what year are they and why aren`t these in the catalougs.

You have the full set of 6. My notes say they were printed in Italy in 1923.

An article appearing 25 Feb 1923 in the Italian paper Domenicia del Corrier pictured alleged new issues from Azerbaijan. A local, unscrupulous firm of printers seized upon the opportunity and produced these "new issues" for the far-away land. There are six values as shown above and they exist both perf 11 1/2 and imperforate. The originals have diagonally crackling gum.
Now the forgers went to work and produced a set perf 11 with smooth gum, a coarser lithograph and design size differences. A second set of forgeries exist both perf 11 1/2 and imperforate, also with smooth gum, coarser lithograph and design size differences.

Interesting that there are two sets of forgeries.

I know that there are design differences as well.

For example, on the 500 ruble value the period after RUB does not touch the frame on the originals, but does touch the frame on the forgery - or at least on one of the forgeries,
