1861 Omsk cover

Shown is a 1861 money letter from the horse artillery brigade of the Siberian line cossack troops in Omsk to the Board of Guardians in St. Petersburg. The letter contained 31.4 rubles. Since the weight fee was waived for military mail, postage was just the 1% insurance fee rounded up to 31.5 kopecks. The central wax seal reads Pech: Omskoi Pochtovoi Kontory Denezhnoi Korrespondentsii. The corner seals belong to the artillery brigade staff. This is the earliest recorded example of the Omsk postmark, introduced in 1860.
