2nd Polar Year perforation mystery
Help!
The 50k stamp of the 1932 "2nd Polar Year" issue exists in two perfs: 12 1/4 (normal) and 10 1/2 (howling rarity).
The perf 12 1/4 stamp is the bottom one in the pic but what about the top stamp? Its vertical perf measures 10 1/2, but there is no mention of this
stamp with perf 12 1/4 x 10 1/2, although it IS listed with perf 10 1/2 x 12 1/4 in, for example, the Standard Kollektsiya catalog (even more howling
rarity).
Since the top stamp is very slightly smaller than the bottom stamp I suppose it is at least possible that it was reperforated, but the variation in
size is well within therange found with these stamps.
Any ideas?

Well, I think you got reperforated 12 1/4 stamp here, made by somebody who messed up sides (yes, there are unprofessional forgers out there...)
1. None of the catalogs (even old Russian ones) mention about 12 1/4 x 10 1/2, all of them describe 10 1/2 x 12 1/4.
2. Look at the shape of perforations. It does not look right to me. If you add it to the fact that it is smaller than standard stamp, the conclusion
unfortunately becomes obvious.

I'm afraid you're right
There's even one perforation tooth on the left side that still shows the original perforation hole in the center...
Oh well, it's a conversation piece!
