Belgian armoured car unit in Russia WW1

A while back I wrote an article on the above unti and its mail for the BSRP journal and after discovering some more pictures of the unit and another cover have recently returned to the subject. This has got me wondering how scarece the covers are bearing in mind that the unit compised roughly a mere 250 men. I have 7 covers and know of 5 more and 4 postcards in other collections. I wouldbe interested to know how many other are out there - covers, cards or any other items. I have also not seen any correspondence from their circuitous route home, most of the material is either from Petrograd or their time in the Ukraine.

verny,

you brought back old memories with your posting. :)

There are four articles / sources that I am aware of dealing with the Belgian armoured car division in Russia:

1. an article by Michael Ercolini in Rossica #125 (http://ufdc.ufl.edu/UF00020235/00068/52j)

2. an article by Frederic Patka in Rossica #72 (http://ufdc.ufl.edu/UF00020235/00020/20)

3. an article by J. Barry in the British Journal of Russian Philately #21

4. a very informative 50-page historical account (in French) of the "adventures" of the unit written by a participant, Marcel Thiry. This account includes 20 pages with pictures of covers sent by members of the corps.

In all of these sources are described or pictured around 50 covers or cards by members of the unit, sent from Russia to Belgium or Belgian APO's. About 80% of this correspondence appears to bear one or more of the special cachets of the unit (it seems there was a total of 18 different cachets, including 4 Russian APO cachets used for the Belgian unit).

If you are interested in the last source, I can send you a photocopy.

Thanks for the response, I would certainly be interested in a copy of the last article (I have the other 3). How do I contact you to facilitate this?
Thanks again.

verny,

would you please post your mailing address through U2U or at my e-mail so that I can send you the info about the Belgian Armoured Car Division. The older U2U messages seem to have disappeared from file. :(
