dubious #1 on piece?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331856265435?_trksid=p2055119.m1438....

This looks to be a half-clever fake. It was sent from Kronshtadt on 15/8/1859 (according to the description), but it could be 1858, from the figure. In either case, there should be a regular cancel, not a pen cancel. Also, the way the piece is cut, it looks like the stamp was placed on it to attempt to hide the fact that it does not belong.

Thoughts?

Would you spoil an unused #1 to make a fake cover? Doubt it. So, someone stuck an used #1 with a pen cancel on the piece and extend the cancel onto the paper to make it tied. Close examination of the ink on envelope and stamp would tell.

Could be, or it could also be a #2 or #8 with the margins chopped. Both can be found with pen cancels, but either way, the cancel was crudely extended.
