Scott 217 Forgery

<p>From our old Counterfeits section:<br>
<table>
<TR><TH Align=center colspan=2>Authentic</tr>
<TR><TD rowspan=2><img src=http://www.rossica.org/Members/Counterfeits/images/217a.jpg width="113" height="150">
<th>Detail</TR>
<tr><TD valign=top><img src=http://www.rossica.org/Members/Counterfeits/images/217adet.jpg width="184" height="120"></tr>
</table><P>

<HR width="75%" size=3 noshade>
<table>
<TR><TH Align=center colspan=2>Counterfeit "A"</tr>
<TR><TD rowspan=2><img src=http://www.rossica.org/Members/Counterfeits/images/217afa.jpg width="213" height="144">
<th>Detail</TR>
<tr><TD valign=top><img src=http://www.rossica.org/Members/Counterfeits/images/217afadet.jpg width="182" height="120"></tr>
</table>
<center>
The forger, in this case, has styled the "2" too artistically. Other differences in the "P"s and the hammer can also be seen.<P>

I do wish we could have more input in this area. Sadly, those who claim expertise are only interested in the sale. We have a lot of novice members as does the philatelic community in general. Why can't we pool our resources and forget the sale for a moment to educate collectors?

OK lambast me for being weird, strange, or something, but what can we collectively do to provide assistance. Remember if it ain't real today, it ain't real tomorrow. Brand me a heretic to be burned at the stake, but I strongly believe that fakes/forgeries are killing our hobby.:(:(

That's a Good Idea.

Gary, Always be careful of how you ask. More forgeries are on the way. Most will be posted without any explination but it will be added later.

:D:P:);):cool:
