Florence Farmborough went to Russia at the age of 21. Originally as a Governess to a family in Kiev in 1908, she moved on to Moscow two years later, teaching English to Dr Pavel Sergeyevich Usov's two daughters.

A few months after Germany declared war on Russia, she found herself serving as a Red Cross nurse for the Russians. She kept a diary of her experiences. That diary formed the basis of her published book Nurse at the Front which appeared in 1974, when she was a lively 90 year old! It begins in Moscow, 1914 and concludes with her escape via Vladivostok in 1918.

She became a Fellow of Royal Geographic Society and lectured in Spain. This time she faced the Spanish Civil War, returning to England in time for the Battle of Britain.

Another English nurse in Russia - or the same one?

This is a postcard FROM an English nurse in Petrograd during WWI, just before the October revolution. I show front and back. Couldn't read her signature on back though name FLORENCE is mentioned. Could it be the same person or a person somehow related to her?
