Could have been an expensive mistake.

Fortunately, having read much on the subject, and talking directly with others who were willing to share information in this society, I was able to ascertain that these postmark and this overprint are both authentic. Unfortunately the forger used the TRIDENT hand stamp ON TOP OF the cancellation. Probably a courtesy of Mr. Dzenis once again.

On top of cancellation again.

With this stamp the cancellation is likely bogus.

I would agree that both tridents are genuine, Kharkov III subtype a in both cases. I consider both cancellations to be genuine but would need to see the stamps to decide if tridents on top of or under the cancels. In practice I have found the best way to make a decision is to view the stamp at 45 degrees to its surface in a good strong white light and examine the cross-over. If this is of the colour of the trident, then the trident is on top of cancel. If the crossover is the colour of the cancellation, i.e. is continuous with it, then the cancellation is on top of the trident. With violet and red tridents the ink often, but no always, fluoresces and there should be no fluorescence on the portion of cancellation over the trident, i.e. the crossover should not fluoresce. If a forger had available a forged or genuine trident I do not see any reason for putting the cart before the horse and adding it on top of a genuine or forged cancellation.
