It is listed in Michel 2007 Specialized USSR Catalog (897Ur - MNH - 60 Euro, Used 40 Euro), and in Liapin 2009 Catalog (see note after 846 (page 253) - MNH - 500 Euro, Used - 300 Euro.).

Now the trick is... if it has horizontal screen - it is a fake made from Scott #959 Souvenir Sheet. If it has vertical screen - it is a real fantail.

See Rossica Journal 148 (Spring 2007), Flyspecker article (page 53) about fake fantails of this issue with examples.

I cant be certain, but the grain of the print seems to run vertically. Is there an easy way to tell? Thanks Hronik and Greg!

If you email me scan of the stamp or it part (highest possible resolution on your scanner), I will be able to tell you.

Dave,

It has clearly visible horizontal screen. Unfortunately it is fake. Keep it is as a nice reference.

Greg: Thanks! Why am I NOT surprised? It never occurred to me that this was the only stamp with a SS from the set! Almost a dead giveaway. Im sure forgery and chicanery were abundant during this period. When I thought about the stamp being alone of all the set, I had to think "In your heart you know he's a fake!" Arghhh....
Dave
thanks again you experts!
